A Funeral Service for Arnold O. Tompkins will be celebrated on Friday March 31, 2017 in the Newton Covenant Church, formerly the Newton Presbyterian Church, 75 Vernon St., Newton, Friday at 11 AM.
Mr. Tompkins, a son of the late Leo M. and Ada (MacPherson) Tompkins died in his home on Monday morning, March 27th after a brief period of declining health. He was 93.
Arnold was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. He and his family came to the Boston area when he was two. Arnold met his wife Sarah at the New England Deaconess Hospital where they both had worked. They married in 1950. He retired from the McLean Hospital, Belmont, MA as an administrator.
Arnold loved to ski, he was skiing in his late seventies. He and Sarah loved travel. They would visit family in Switzerland and England, and the families would all meet for vacation in Florida. He was an outstanding craftsman and furniture maker in his home.
He was the beloved husband of the late Sarah E. (Wills) Tompkins. Devoted father of Deborah A. Murith of Switzerland, Nancy J. Tompkins of Newton, Craig D. Tompkins of London, England and Troy W. Tompkins of Newton. Loving grandfather of Wesley, Nathan, Zachary & Alexandra Murith, Tyler & Chelsea Tompkins and Hannah & Zoe Tompkins.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Newton Covenant Church, formerly the Newton Presbyterian Church, 75 Vernon St., Newton, Friday at 11 AM.
Visiting hours in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., Watertown, Thursday 3-7 PM. Relatives & friends kindly invited.
Interment Newton Cemetery.
