A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Luke's Church, Belmont on Thursday August 25, 2016 for Francis H. "Fran" McCarran, Jr. at 9 am.

Francis was a son of the late Francis H., Sr. and Mary (Callahan) McCarran, he was 92.

Fran passed away peacefully at his Watertown home on Sunday August 21, 2016.  Fran and his wife, Helen F. (Cronin) McCarran enjoyed almost 69 years of love, fun and family together. Helen will forever cherish his nightly “Good night my love, I love you thank you for taking such good care of me”. He is also survived by his dear brother, Paul J. McCarran, who’s nightly phone call to discuss the Red Sox and always an “I Love You” meant the world to Fran. They were blessed with five children Francis H. McCarran III and his wife Joanne, William J. McCarran and his wife Lorraine, Linda M. Crusco and her companion Mike Bonacci, Ann M. Sachetta and her husband Joe and Eileen Morris and her husband Walter.  Fran “Grampa” loved and was extremely proud of his fourteen grandchildren, Sheri Bailey and her husband Jeff, Shawn Fleming and her husband Bryan, Francis H. McCarran IV, Shena Youngblood and her husband Robert, Shannon Ellis and her husband Casey, Christine and Erin McCarran, Stephen Crusco and his wife Jessica, Laura Crusco, Eric Sachetta and his wife Meg, Brian Sachetta, Walter J., Kerry and Rachel Morris. There was always room on “Grampa’s” lap for his 11 great grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan Bailey, Samuel and Tyler Fleming, Kinsley Youngblood, Luke Ellis, Conor and Kayla Crusco, Bryanna and Sophie Crusco and Logan Sachetta. He was blessed with many caring nieces, nephews, good friends and passionate caretakers. 

Fran was an accomplished professional, dedicated volunteer and proud veteran. He was a graduate of Tufts University, Class of 1945.  Fran was Troop 280 Cub Master at the Cunniff school, coach of the Union Market Bank men’s softball team and active member of St. Luke’s Parish and Saint Vincent DePaul Society. He retired from the Metropolitan District Commission as the Director of Engineering and Parks Divisions in 1984. He served in the Navy for 30 years, retiring as a Captain and was honored to have lead many in the Seabees Construction Battalions. He also served as a Commanding Officer in World War II and the Korean War.

Fran and his family were blessed with much love and wonderful memories all of which will stay alive in their hearts forever.

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main Street, Watertown on Thursday August 25, 2016 at 8:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Luke's, 132 Lexington St. Belmont at 9:00 AM.  Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 PM.  

Interment, Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
