Joan Elizabeth (Oxner) McCarthy

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 17, 2016 in St. Luke’s Church, Belmont at 9 am for Joan Elizabeth McCarthy.

Mrs. McCarthy, a daughter of the late Cyril & Alice (Oxner) McCarthy was born in Boston, MA,  She was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School, class of 1953.  She past away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.  She was 81.

As a young woman Joan devoted her life to her husband and children. Once her children began school, Joan pursued a successful career in finance with American Publishing Corp and Procorp In Framingham. She retired in the early 1990's.

Joan and her husband Tom spent many wonderful years splitting their time between Florida and Plymouth. After her husbands passing   In 2000, Joan devoted her time to the Bourne Food Pantry and the Friends of the Bourne Council on Aging.  She spent many happy years surrounded by loving family and friends.

She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas F. McCarthy.  Devoted mother of Debbie Phillips & her husband Jim of Plymouth, Donna McCarthy & her husband Mike Britt of Evergreen, CO, Laurie Selib of Newton and Thomas F. McCarthy, Jr. & his husband Michael Pcolinski of Glenn, MI.  Loving grandmother of  Joy Smerczynski, Jenna  Phillips, Jimmy Phillips & Mitchell Selib..  Great grandmother of Jack & Eve Smerczynski and Rowan & Cora Phillips.  Dear sister of the late Phyllis Walsh and Robert Oxner. 

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main Street, Watertown on Saturday Sept. 17, 2016 at 8:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Luke's, 132 Lexington St. Belmont at 9:00 AM.  Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Visiting hours Friday 4-8  PM.  

Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
