A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of St. Patrick, Watertown at 10:00 AM on Thursday September 21st for Mary P. (O’Connell) Monahan.

 

Mrs. Monahan was a daughter of the late Michael & Mary (Qunian) O’Connell past away in her home surrounded by family on Thursday night after a short period of declining health. She was 87.

 

Mary was born in Waltham, MA  and graduated from St. Patrick High School, class of 1948.  She then went on to receive her degree from Bryant & Stratton Secretarial School.  In 1959 she married her late husband Francis X. Monahan. They lived in Cambridge for a short time before moving to Watertown in 1961. In 1976 they moved to there home in Waltham

 

Mary was  a stay home mother until her sons were through school.  At that time she start her career at Harvard Trust Bank, then Baybank where she worked for 20 years.  As a stay home mother she became a Cub Scout Den Mother, a volunteer at St. Patrick Schools, and a chauffer for baseball & hockey games.  Later in life Mary became a volunteer at Waltham Hospital, Meals on Wheels, a poll worker for the City of Waltham.  She also loved to travel, seeing such places as Rome, Ireland and Alaska.

 

She was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Quinan) O’Connell. Beloved wife of the late Francis X. Monahan.  Devoted mother of Dennis F. of San Diego, CA and Michael F. of Merrimack, NH.  Loving grandmother of Maura, William & Grace Monahan of Medway.  Dear sister of the late Margaret Hatfield & Eileen Flynn, Bill, Edmund, Joe, Paul & Bob O’Connell. Beloved Mother-in-law of Carrie Monahan of Medway. Sister-in-law of Antoinette O’Connell of Wayland. Dear friend of Mary Callahan of Osterville. Also loved by many nieces & nephews.

 

A visitation hour will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21st from 9:00 – 9:45 in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. Watertown followed by Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown at 10 :00 AM. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary’s memory may be made to CareGroup Parmenter Home Care & Hospice, Inc. 1 Arsenal Street Watertown, MA 02472.
