A Funeral Mass for Marylin Christine Haley, 65, will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.
Ms. Haley was born in Boston and graduated from Newton High School. She was awarded a scholarship to the University of Massachusetts, receiving a Bachelors degree in 1966, and later another scholarship to Northeastern University, receiving a Masters in Education in 1976. Ms. Haley taught a year in Newton before joining the faculty at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in 1967, where she taught Home Economics and American History until her retirement in 1990.
She was the Assistant Activities Director at the Charlesgate Manor in Watertown, Meadow Green Nursing Home in Waltham, and at Emerson Village in Watertown, where she was currently employed. Ms. Haley, a member and Past Vice President for Program Development of the Massachusetts Home Economics Association, was a member of the American Home Economics Association, the national education Honor Society Kappa Delta Pi, and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
She was also interested in social service programs and volunteer work, being one of the organizing members of the Friends of Matt Galligan in Watertown. Ms. Haley also was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order and of Saint Patrick Parish. She died on Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Emerson Village, Watertown, after a brief illness.
The beloved daughter of the late Albert A. and Helen T. (Gauthier) Haley, she leaves many cousins including Pam Duffy of Belmont, Audrey Yorkey and Fred Haley of Falmouth Forside, Maine, Peter Haley of Westport, MA., William Roffey of Melbourne, Florida, Mary Roffey of Maine and Janet Young of Florida. Also, dear second cousins Maura McCormick of New York, Patrick Duffy and Breanne Duffy of Belmont, MA, and Marylin's dear cousin and caregiver Megan McCormick of Jamaica Plain, MA.
The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Route 20, Watertown, on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
Calling hours will be on Monday, January 4th from 4-7 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
