A Funeral Home Service will be celebrated in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown on Monday evening, July 8, 2019 at 7 PM for Elizabeth A. “Liz” Tierney.
Ms. Tierney passed away in the Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Wednesday morning, July 3, 2019 after a long period of failing health. She was 57.
Liz was born in Cambridge, MA, but was a lifelong Watertown resident. A graduate of Watertown High School, a Psychology Major at UMASS Boston and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Liz served in the Coast Guard (Radarman Third Class and was honorably discharged May 1983. She joined the Coast Guard because she wanted to help people. She was involved in real estate locally for a number of years,worked in the Weston post office for a number of years.
She loved animals and especially dogs. She worked at a dog breeder's and groomed dogs for a number of years. She adopted a total of 5 rescue dogs; each lived individually with Liz their entire lives. Koko was her most recent dog that died earlier this year.
She eventually gravitated to the health care profession and worked there for over 14 years to help people in need. She cherished a small group of friends, that formed during their grade school years, her entire life and who supported each other. Liz was the primary caretaker for her father Bob that was ill for several years with cancer (lymphoma), and her mother Edith (emphysema) that was also severely ill during the last years of her life. She had a special bond with her mother. They gave each other support during always and especially during Liz's father's prolonged illness. She also had a special relationship with her Aunt Liz (Iher namesake); the two have had lunch together for many years and most recently a few weeks ago.
Liz loved Classic Rock and Roll music - including J. Geils Band, B52's (favorite song - Love Shack!), Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin. Liz loved her family, including all of her nieces and nephews. She hosted Thanksgiving dinner at her home in Watertown every year for the family, and she helped create great memories there. She liked to go to Laconia, NH during summers to visit her mother and father and then her brother Jim and his family there as the children grew. She liked to travel and took trips to Ireland, Annapolis to visit her brother David and his family, Florida on a number of occasions to visit her parents, the Caribbean, and most recently went to Seattle, WA. on a whim!
She was the devoted daughter of the late Robert J. & Edith M. (O’Brien) Tierney. Dear sister of James R. of Hudson and David W. & his wife Pamela of Annapolis, MD. Loving aunt of Matthew, Catherine, Michelle, Kira Trevor & Emma.
A visitation in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, 270 Main St. Watertown will be held Monday July 8, 2019 from 5-7 PM.
Funeral Service at 7 PM. Relatives & friends kindly invited.
Interment in the family lot at the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown will be private.
