Irene C. (Sullivan) Linehan
June 21, 1934 - January 17, 2019
In South Chatham, formerly of Arlington.
Irene was born in Arlington, where she resided with her parents Charles and Carmel Sullivan. She was joined four years later with her sister Janet and again eight years later with her sister Charlotte.
As a teenager she worked as a nurse’s aide at the the Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. After graduating high school in 1952 she worked for The Travelers Insurance Company.
In 1959 she married Joe Linehan at St. Agnes Church in Arlington and continued to work until the birth of her first son, Michael. Four years later her second son, Sean was born. Both of the boys were born in Mount Auburn Hospital where Irene worked as a teenager. As a young mother, Irene would wake Michael and Sean up by softly singing to them while rubbing their back or shoulder. She was a stay at home Mom until Sean was 14 and then returned to work, again at The Travelers, where she stayed until her retirement in 1994.
Irene loved working in the yard both in Arlington and Chatham.
She was a marvelous cook and always enjoyed trying out new recipes. Holiday’s were always a special event as Irene would always put so much effort into preparing dishes and desserts of all kinds.
She was the loving grandmother of Matthew and Zachary Linehan.
A private burial and funeral service for Irene was held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Watertown.
Memorial’s in Irene’s name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
