Joseph James Linehan
June 8, 1931 – October 21, 2019
88 Years Old
South Chatham, Massachusetts, formerly of Arlington
Joe was a devoted husband to his wife, Irene, father, grandfather, and brother.
Joe was born in Watertown as the middle child with his two siblings Sally & Leo. He attended Watertown High School, where he was a hockey player (defenseman – very tall for his age). He adored his wife Irene whom he married in 1959 (they met on an arranged date); Joe joined the Merchant Marines after high school, then graduated from Northeastern University, where he majored in mechanical engineering, eventually becoming a chief engineer in the field of offshore oil engineering, traveling around the world. He loved boating, especially the KG, his diving boat and diving (was a founding member of the Boston Sea Rovers) and projects in general – he was an amazing handy man. In retirement, he became a master woodworker and was highly regarded as a member of the Chatham woodworkers who have done several projects for the town (movie theater bench and display cases for the Marconi Museum). He was a great conversationalist and was always ready to listen and give advice.
A graveside service was held at St. Patrick Cemetery, Watertown at 12 Noon on Friday October 25th, 2019.
