Sylvia Westcott Obituary

A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday August 9, 2019 at 11 am in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown for Sylvia D. (Fuller) Westcott.

Mrs. Westcott was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Seavey) Fuller. Sylvia passed away in the Langdon Place Assisted Living in Nashua, New Hampshire on Monday August 5th, 2019 at the age of 88.

Sylvia was born and raised in Boothbay Harbor Maine, a town she never stopped loving. Graduated in1948 as salutatorian from Boothbay Harbor High School, member of the band-playing clarinet and cheerleader squad, as well as homecoming queen.

She spent one school year in Sarasota Florida with her parents and sister Betty at their winter home, where Sylvia also played in the band.  Deciding she much preferred staying in Boothbay Harbor for school and the winter she would live with her grandmother "Nanny" who she was very devoted to.

She attending secretarial school at the Kathleen Dell School in Boston, where she graduated in1949.  Living on the Fenway she continued to work for Kathleen Dell and then Buck Printing company.  Sylvia had 2 roommates during her 4 years on the Fenway that were life long friends.  Her best friend since 5th grade Audrey and Penny.  They often got together even as their families grew.

Sylvia met her future husband Roger in August 1951 and they were married on June 14th, 1952.  They moved to Lexington in '54 after building their home which they lived in until 2001.  Sylvia's was a devoted wife, mother and eventually grandmother and great-grandmother, which she was most proud of.  Family and friends were always first and it was her most loved "job" in life. Taking care of and doing things for her husband Roger, daughter Sharon, son-in-law Tom, grandson Daniel and great-granddaughter Brystal brought her great joy throughout her years.  Her other interests  were belonging to the Lexington Methodist Church where she typed the church's monthly newsletter for many years.  Sylvia was also a member of and secretary for the Women's Republican club in Lexington and a Girl Scout Leader for Sharon's troop for several years.  Sylvia enjoyed volunteering at Mount Auburn Hospital with the Watertown Auxiliary for many years.  There she was a buyer for the hospital gift shop, predominantly buying the toys that the shop sold, which were often tested out by her grandson Danny.  She also participated in the yearly Auxiliary fashion show for which she modeled for several years.

Sylvia and Roger made many good friends in Lexington, especially in their neighborhood.  Dave and Nancy Merchant moved in across the street and they remained best of friends throughout their lives.  The Watertown Rotary Club also gave them many  friends throughout their lives, as well as many of Roger's Belmont school friends, most notably Ralph and Lois Butt. They enjoyed traveling with their friends to Bermuda, the Bahama's and most of all Las Vegas.  Sylvia and Roger continued to go to Las Vegas several times a year enjoying slot machine tournaments and the shows.

In 2001 they moved to North Chelmsford to the Wayside condos enjoying the social events of their condo life and being closer to Tyngsboro where Sharon, Tom and Daniel lived. They enjoyed 7 years together there until Roger's passing in October 2008.  Sylvia continued to reside there enjoying the friends she had made and occasional trips to Foxwoods or local shows with them.  In 2017 Sylvia moved to Langdon Place Assisted living in Nashua NH after her Alzheimer's had progressed. Sylvia continued to enjoy her gambling there by playing Bingo.  She often said "this is such a nice place" and "the people here are SO NICE!" throughout her 2 years there.  Although she could not remember names or faces she liked her new home and the staff there took excellent care of her as her disease progressed.  Sylvia had a smile for everyone throughout her life.  She was always more concerned and caring for others than herself.  Sylvia will be missed by all.

She was the beloved wife of the late Roger T. Westcott. Loving mother of Sharon L. Koning & her husband Thomas P. of Tyngsborough. Dear sister of the late Betty DiOrio. Loving grandmother of Daniel T. Koning of Tyngnsborough. Caring great-grandmother of Brystal A. Koning.
