Anthony DiGiacomandrea Obituary

Anthony (Tony) DiGiacomandrea was born in Acton April 27th 1929. He grew up in a farm house in Acton where his father and uncle owned and ran a concrete block company for several years. The family moved to Watertown when Tony was still young where he spent his entire life.

Tony was a hard-working blue collar guy. He spent his early life working all sorts of jobs everything from lugging blocks of ice down the Cape. To Lewandos dry cleaners in Watertown sq. He never shied away from hard work. He applied for a job at Sherman paper in Newton MA, on Oak st. Where he retired from after working 43 years! But I think the best part of the years there would be when he met Anita.

Tony and Anita met at work where they became dear friends and with a strong friendship evolved into a loving relationship. Tony and Anita married June 30th 1967 and started a wonderful family.

As I said before Tony didn’t shy away from work. He was always around to help friends with projects whether it was fixing up a house helping out with someone's car to helping out down at the diner with his sisters and brother in law

After Tony retired from the paper mill. It only took him a few weeks before he needed something to do. He was offered a job at a dear friend’s gas station where he pumped gas in the mornings for a few hours. He loved the customers and all the at work banter.

During his life and retirement Tony enjoyed traveling on the weekends all over New England. Tony loved taking his family up to NH for vacations to Meredith and Laconia. He loved his bowling leagues with all his friends, being around his family for a cookout or a card game. Whether it’s down to the Cape or up to Maine for a hot dog at Flo's He also enjoyed his time in Georgia visiting his grandchildren. And all over Massachusetts for dinners and Black Russians.

Tony always kept us smiling with his stories or one liners. His way of saying he wanted to grab a blueberry muffin would be "now a blueberry muffin" "where are ya" "eat it we're only gonna throw it away"

Tony always enjoyed visiting with his 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild and was happy to hear he was soon to become a great grandfather once again.

After a brief illness, on March 12th 2019 at the age of 89 Tony passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

He was also a loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren. Jay, Rita, Ashley, Carl, Stephen, Dominic, Erik Jr, Camryn, Shawn, and Caleigh. And 1 great grandchild Ava Diane.

Loving son of the late Nicolo and Molly (Natale). Dear brother of Nancy Sternberg of New Jersey, Julia Ranno of Washington, Marie Doyle of Milford N.H., Lorraine Kelley of Maryland, Ruth Foley of Burlington, Jane Healey of Manomet, and the late Frances DeSantis, Louis DiGiacomandrea, Lucy Fagan, Jean Diandrea, and Irene Anderson.
