Arthur Griffin was born in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland on October 2, 1922, the ninth of twelve children of John and Elizabeth (Cronin) Griffin. He passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the age of 99.
Arthur immigrated to Canada in 1950 with his cousin Eddie Cronin, and then to the United States in 1951. He worked for the MBTA for many years.
He was the husband of the late Eileen (Cooney) Griffin. He is survived by their 5 children: Ellen M. Davis and her husband Charlie, Patricia Griffin-Silva and her husband Victor Silva, John K. Griffin and his wife Elaine, Arthur T. Griffin, and Sheila A. Griffin. Grandfather of Regina and her husband Eric, Jonathan and his wife Jess, Ryan, Brenna, Erin, Kaitlin, Matthew, Megan, and Devin; Great-grandfather of Olivia and Griffin. He is also survived by his sister, Sr. Ann Griffin of Dublin, Ireland, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings: William (Will), Edmond (Ned), Ina, Lena, James (Jim), Sr. Brid, John (Jack), Jerome, Gerald, and Denis.
Arthur was a long-time resident (61 years) of Watertown and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 14. He enjoyed many summers in Falmouth, Mass., at the family’s summer home. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.
Funeral from the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in Watertown on Friday, March 25, at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Newton at 10:30am. Visiting hours are 4-7pm on Thursday, March 24. Interment at St Patrick's Cemetery.
