Beverly "Bev" Armstrong, our dear daughter, sister, friend, classmate, and teammate, passed away in Boston, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 4th, 2025, at the age of 56.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, located at 270 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend, and a link will be available for remote viewing.
Born in Queens, New York, on June 18, 1969, Bev was the beloved daughter of Marva (Johnson) Armstrong and the late Bernard Armstrong. She attended Hunter College High School in New York City, where she excelled academically and was an outstanding athlete, playing on the basketball, softball, and volleyball teams.
Bev continued on to Harvard University, earning an AB in Economics and Government in 1991. After beginning her career at Morgan Stanley in New York, she returned to Harvard to complete her MBA (1996) and JD (1997). She then joined the law firm Mintz Levin before becoming an executive at Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Inc. At the height of her biotech career, Bev decided to pursue another longtime passion. In 2015, she became the first woman in Massachusetts and one of the few African American women in the country to open a brewery, aptly named Brazo Fuerte. She proudly served as its Founder, CEO, and Head Brewer.
A gifted athlete, Bev played rugby well into her 30s, primarily for Beantown RFC. Her dedication to the sport extended to her board service for the United States Women's Rugby Foundation Inc. (USWRF) and the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization Inc., actively working to promote rugby across all levels in the U.S.
Bev’s intellect, kindness, athleticism, and gentle laugh were her hallmarks. Bev made her mark in the world and on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her loving mother, Marva Armstrong; her dear brother, Trevor Armstrong; and her caring nieces and nephews, Cory, Christian, Angelica, and Christiane Armstrong. She is also survived by many cherished relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to United States Women's Rugby Foundation Inc., the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization Inc., or The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare.
