Daniel R. Farrell
February 6, 1932 to August 2, 2024
Daniel Richard Farrell, originally of Pine Bluff, WI and longtime resident of Watertown, passed away at his home on August 2 surrounded by his loving family. He was 92.
Youngest son of the late Richard and Irene (Kalscheur) Farrell, Daniel was born and reared in Pine Bluff, Wisconsin, and graduated from nearby Mt. Horeb High School. A Korean War-era veteran with the US Navy, he traveled three of the seven seas before meeting his future wife, Mary Hannon, at a St. Valentine’s Day dance in Boston in 1954. They were married 18 months later, and they danced (and danced) until she passed away two years ago.
Daniel graduated from Boston College while working full time and raising their four (at the time) kids with his wife. He was employed by NECCO, General Motors, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts before finishing his career with many years of service at Polaroid Corporation. As a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Parish (Watertown) for 70 years, he was a lector, an extraordinary minister of the eucharist, and a member of the finance committee. He was also on the finance committee for St. Coletta’s School (Braintree), a personal tax preparer, and the first phone call whenever any of his kids had car trouble. Even after he gifted them AAA memberships.
Like his wife, Daniel found fulfillment in his family, watching and listening to the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots, tending to his garden and tomato plants, and teaching his kids everything from how to field a ground ball to how to balance their checkbooks. Road trips in the family van to Wisconsin were executed with precision every other summer, later replaced by more-efficient but less-fun airplane flights, including four in the last three years.
Daniel is survived by his children, Daniel of Watertown, Eileen Burk (David) of Burlington, John, Mary Ellen, and Richard of Watertown, Bernadette (Peter Beck) of Wakefield, Anne Michaud (Gerard) of Billerica, Erin (Paul McPartland) of Needham, Paul and Mark of Watertown, and Steven (Todd Robinson) of Dorchester. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Erin Atkinson, Glenna McPartland, Brian Burk, Max McPartland, Deirdre Beck, Tighe Beck, Kayla Michaud, and Eadeen Beck; two great-granddaughters, Quinn Burk and Hallie Burk; and 27 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Rosemary Farrell of Pine Bluff, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary; parents, Richard and Irene; his brother Jack Farrell and his wife Ruth; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Ann) Hannon, Francis (Ruth) Hannon, Sr. Eileen Hannon, OP, Margaret Hannon, and Fr. John Mark Hannon; his nephew Kevin Farrell and niece Mary Ann Barry.

Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 PM. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery.
