A Funeral Mass for David Coyle of Belmont will be held on Tuesday September 12, 2023, at 10 AM in the Church of St. Agnes, Arlington.
Mr. Coyle was born in Cambridge to the late Joseph L. & Therese (Hartigan) Coyle. David passed away Thursday September 7th, 2023. He was 97.
David graduated from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia. After graduation, he attended Boston University & Northeastern University as a part-time student while he worked. He finished his bachelor’s degree at UMass Boston where he received his degree in Gerontology, at the age of 78.
In 1943, David enlisted in the United States Army. David served his country from 1943 to 1946, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
David’s work history includes part owner, treasurer, and clerk of J. Coyle, Inc. of Boston, President of Coyle Leasing and Equipment, Inc., and treasurer and clerk of Coyle Trans., Inc. During his “retirement” he volunteered at the Belmont Council on Aging where he tutored an ESL program.
In December of 1941, David began a lasting tradition of donating his O Negative blood, a tradition which he has passed down to his children and grandchildren. In 2007 at the age of 81 he reached his 10-gallon donation mark with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and had donated more than 25-gallons to the Red Cross. Since 1941, David has given more than 40-gallons of his blood.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mattie (Peters) Coyle. Fiancé of the late Elizabeth Rupp. Loving father Joseph Coyle of Leominster, Terry Milton of Gloucester, Raymond Coyle of Tilton, New Hampshire, Gerri Mosig of Derry, New Hampshire, Lyn Pickering of Littleton, James Coyle of Round Rock, Texas, and the late David Coyle, Jr., Marie Coyle, & Christine Parchesky. Beloved grandfather of 21 grandchildren & 6 greatgrandchildren. Dear brother of Trudi Smallcomb of California & the late James Coyle.
Visiting hours in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. WATERTOWN on from 4 to 7 PM on Monday September 11. Followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday Sept. 12, at 10:00 AM in St. Agnes Church 32 Medford St. Arlington. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment Belmont Cemetery.
