Donald was the son of the late Walter & Eleanor (Pratley) Power. Mr. Power passed away Sunday morning October 4, 2020. He was 79.
Donald was a graduate of Watertown High School and a veteran of the Army National Guard. He served from July of 1963 to July of 1969 and earned the rank of SGT. In September of 1966, Donald married the love of his life, Janice (Pigeon) Power and the two of them were happily married for 54 years.
Mr. Power had a passion for the fire department and worked as a fire alarm inspector throughout the city of Boston and beyond. He was known as a “fire buff” throughout the fire community but known even more for his thousands of leather fire helmet repairs and his production of leather fire shields. He was employed by Boston Fire for a time producing shields for members recently transferred or promoted and for new recruits receiving their assignments after graduating the Academy and would travel to Moon Island to personally hand the new recruits their shields.
He also enjoyed metal detecting and was the president of the Mass Treasure Hunters Association for a number of years.
He loved the Boston Bruins and when they were playing you could count on him sitting in his recliner watching the game with great intensity. He was also an avid college football fan and looked forward to watching the games on Saturdays throughout the fall.
He was the beloved husband of Janice A. (Pigeon) Power. Loving father of Robert C. Power (Captain WFD) & his wife Jill of Winchester and Wendy J. Vaughan & her husband Mark Pelland of North Reading. Loving grandfather of John & Brooke Vaughan and Chris, Lizzy, & Gabby Power. Dear brother of Shirley Dybala of Cranston RI and the late David Power.
