Dulce Maria de Borbon, formerly of Boston, passed away peacefully on Easter after a long-fought battle with Alzheimer's disease. Maria, as she was known to her friends, was a late-in-life blessing to her parents, descendants of Spanish royalty. After her parents passed early in Maria’s life, her priest uncle raised her and brought her first to Canada and then the US. She spent her life traveling, learning, sharing, and touching the lives of everyone who had the good fortune to meet her. A graduate of Mount Saint Mary College, Maria loved people and music, especially classical, and loved to sing. For years she maintained the VIP Beranek Room at Boston Symphony Hall where she communed with Seiji Ozawa, Keith Lockhart and others. Maria took her faith seriously, particularly the call to treat others as you want to be treated. Maria spent her later years making new friends at Zelma Lacey House in Charlestown where she could spend hours listening to her friend Ed Quinn play the piano, and staff referred to her as “petite fleur” for the floral pins she wore in her hair. Always a fashionista, Maria dazzled with her sense of style and compassionate heart. Her final home was with friends at Chestnut Woods in Saugus. She will be missed.
A visitation will be held on Friday April 5, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. Watertown followed by Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church, 212 Main St. Watertown at 10 AM.
