Edward J. Mann, 73, of Attleboro, MA and formerly of Watertown, MA died peacefully on August 12, 2021 after a brief illness.
Ed graduated from Watertown High School, class of 1965 and later graduated from Boston State College in 1970. Ed’s career expanded many decades and he ultimately retired from the Town of Needham as a cartographer with the Engineering/Accessor’s Department.
Ed lived his life with a positive outlook where he found good in everyone. No one can remember Ed saying an unkind word toward anyone. A quiet man who enjoyed classical music with a special affection for the works of Beethoven and Bach. Ed enjoyed many other genres of music and introduced the Irish music of The Chieftains to his brothers. Even though Ed loved music, he was quite possibly the last human on the planet still using an 8-track player. Over the years, Ed played a lot of golfand especially enjoyed wagering dollars on the putting green with his brothers. Sipping on Jameson’s Irish Whiskey was hisway of celebrating an occasion. Summer beach days were spent in York, Maine where riding the waves, swimming laps, eating ice cream at Brown’s and the views of Nubble Lighthouse were his favorite things to do. In Ed’s younger days he loved hiking the Presidential Range in the White Mountains and Mt. Monadnock. Later in life taking long walks while in York, ME was his favorite way of exploring. Ed had a life long fascination with meteorology even running an annual snow prediction pool with the Town of Needham’s Engineering Department up until his retirement. Ed truly stopped, looked around and found beauty in the mountain formations, architectural designs of buildings and especially the tidal currents of the ocean. The books he held onto included maps from all over the world, natural land formations and the vibrate colors of everyday flowers. Ed’s appreciation for the simpler things in life and the beauty that surrounds us was his happiness. His unassuming demeanor and shy smile will be truly missed by his family and friends.
