Francoise L. (Wentziger) Mannix

Françoise L. Mannix, born on December 23, 1946, in Paris, France, to Simone and Francois Wentziger, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

At the age of four, Françoise embarked on a transatlantic journey with her mother and two sisters, arriving in New York City on January 25, 1951. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life as they settled in Boston.

Fondly known as Fran or Frannie, Françoise graduated from Watertown High School in 1964. As a dedicated reader, Françoise earned her Certificate of Librarianship in 1965 and enjoyed a long career at the Watertown Free Public Library, where she shared her love of literature and crossword puzzles with many. Retiring with over forty-one years of service to the community, Françoise remained a friendly face at the library, often stopping in to say hello to friends and to check out the new releases from her favorite authors. Françoise lived in Watertown, Massachusetts, and in her free time mastered the art of cross stitch, tended to her many plants and loved to walk into town or take the bus into Harvard Square to meet up with friends.

Françoise was preceded in death by her parents, Simone and Francois Wentziger, and her beloved sisters, Yvette Bressler and Claudine Urban. She is survived by her niece Hillary Bressler, of Orlando, Florida, nephews Phillip Urban of Malden, Massachusetts, Christopher Urban of Malden, Massachusetts, and Brett Bressler of Clermont, Florida, along with best friend Rich Baccari, of Watertown, and dear friend, Katie Langan of Watertown.

A graveside service to celebrate Françoise’s life will be held at Noon on Saturday, October 26th, 2024 at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown, Massachusetts.
