James Dempsey Obituary

James Brendan Dempsey Jr., of Waltham, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 3, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita (Leone); his son James Dempsey and his wife Cheryl of Waltham and her son Joshua Clarke; and his daughter Lynne Dempsey. He is also survived by many relatives and friends.

Jim was born in New Haven, CT on August 9, 1937. The son of the late James and Cecelia (McKeon), Jim graduated from St. Patrick’s School in Watertown and he lived locally and worked for the United States Postal Service for 40 years.

Jim's greatest love was his family. He readily admits that his “one trip” into Newton to ask Rita to go out with him was the best decision of his life. They had a wonderful marriage built on love and laughs. Jim was a wonderful father. He loved and was incredibly proud of his son Jim. They shared a love of music and meeting new people. He also loved his daughter Lynne with whom he shared a love of sports and a sense of humor.

Jim battled Parkinson’s Disease for the past 15 years and the family is thankful for all of the time they had with him.

As a result of the pandemic and the limitations established for gatherings, Jim’s funeral service and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Jim’s name may be made to: Parkinson’s Foundation: https://www.parkinson.org/  or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/
