1932-2022

Johanna Madden Erickson died December 28th, 2022. Wife of the late Roger Erickson. Member of First Parish of Watertown for over 50 yrs. Johanna is survived by her children Sandra and Miguel. Born in Trenton NJ to Margaret and Hiram Madden. Attended Syracuse University, Boston University, Marymount College with a BA in Art. College of New Rochelle, MA in Art Education. Member of Hand weavers Guild of America, Weavers Guild of Boston since 1973. Taught Fiber Arts since 1973. Lectured and taught many workshops throughout the US. She shared her craft with so many folks. Wrote a booklet on Rag Weaving. Her work appeared in publications including Country Living, Home, Country America, Handwoven, Threads and more.

Johanna was known for her gorgeous rugs, wearables, love of colors and design. She adored all creatures. She loved skiing, playing tennis and sailing. Politically involved in her beloved hometown of Watertown, she let her voice be heard. She was unbridled, unapologetic and unfiltered. Was loving, gentle witty and funny.

She will be missed terribly by her daughter, son, nieces, nephew, family and friends.

A memorial service will be held in the spring. Time and date will be announced.
