John Caputo Obituary

CAPUTO, John Marius of Belmont, passed away on September 24, 2022. Age 74. Beloved husband of Sandra J. “Sandy” (Keefe) Caputo, married for 47 years. Loving father of Charlene Caputo Saia & her husband Matthew of Arlington, Lauren R. Caputo of Medford, Kristi L. Caputo & her fiancé Alex MacKinnon of Boston, Cherie A. Caputo of Medford, and Jason M. Caputo of Cambridge. Dear brother of Louis & Lawrence Caputo both of CA, Gina Caputo of Hatfield, and the late Brian Caputo. Loving grandfather of Wes & Janelle. Son of the late Mario & Doris (McGunnigle) Caputo.

John’s passion in life was his family. He was very involved in his children’s lives, whether it was coaching Belmont Youth Soccer or reinvigorating the youth track program of Liberty Athletic Club. He took his kids to track and cross-country meets up and down the East Coast and across the country, much to their delight. He cared about other Belmont youth too, so if you heard a father yelling splits at a high school track meet, it was probably John yelling at his kids or their teammates.

John and his family made an annual trip to Lake George, NY for vacation every summer which was a tradition. His favorite part was a day at Saratoga Race Course, although winning was less of a tradition. This trip dates back 40+ years and now includes another generation with his grandkids. He was very close with his grandkids who frequented Belmont for sleepovers and who he taught to ride their bikes. If he wasn’t with his family he was working on his “projects”, whether it was yardwork, painting, or finding something to fix around the house.

John was an avid golfer, first playing at Fresh Pond Golf Course as a teenager and eventually joining the Lexington Golf Club in 1975 (where he won the Club Championship in 1976).  He was a member of LGC for 47 years. Through the game of golf, he created many memories and lifelong friends. He truly loved LGC and spending time there with his buddies.

In 1982, John acquired Parisi Associates Inc., a custom manufacturing and assembly business, and was President up until the time of his passing. He was incredibly devoted to Parisi and ran a successful business. Much of his success can be attributed to his amiable nature and ability to foster strong relationships in the industry.

John will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend Sandy and his five children. His sense of humor was one of a kind and he always kept his kids laughing. As long as we have our “Dad stories” (which are endless), he will never be forgotten. His spirit and memory will live on in our hearts forever.

A private burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s memory may be made to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund to provide need-based college scholarships to those who have worked in golf in Massachusetts at: https://www.ouimet.org/.
