Kathleen Lenaghan Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen M. (Oates) Lenaghan will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Church, Watertown.

Kathleen was born in Boston to the late John P. & Isabelle “Rita” (Cahill) Oates. She passed away on May 21, 2025 at the age of 77.

Kathy spent her youth playing sports, summering with her family in her favorite place, Humarock, and essentially spending as much time as possible outside. She loved playing with her neighborhood friends and making lasting memories.

As Kathy grew older, sports would be a big part of her life. She and her father would go on to compete and win the "father- son" golf tournament at the Oakley Country Club, causing it to forever be known as the "father- offspring" tournament. That was just the first of many ways Kathy would make changes to the world.

Kathy would continue to make wonderful friends into her teenage years. Friends that she cherished dearly. Her "reunion committee" friends would meet frequently and gather as often as they could, right up until this day.

It was shortly after her graduation from Westfield State College that she met the love of her life. Chuck. They knew instantly that they were meant to be together and were married 6 months after meeting. Together, they met and created the most amazing friend group. These families spent the next 50 or so years traveling together, laughing together, and teaching their children that making memories was more valuable than a bank account.

For the last year, Kathy spent her time at Sunrise of Plymouth, where she would befriend everyone, she met. She laughed and danced and truly made each 3 o'clock cocktail hour or lunch outing a wonderful experience for all around her.

Throughout Kathy's life, she never met a dog that didn't like her or planted a garden that wouldn't grow. Kathy was a nurturer by nature and kind by design.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles W. “Chuck” Lenaghan, Jr. (retired Watertown Canine Police Officer). Loving mother of Sean P. Lenaghan & his wife Kelly of Auburndale and Tara C. Gendreau & her husband Josh of Pembroke. Dear sister of the late John “Rick” Oates and Mark Oates. Loving grandmother of Charlie Gendreau. Kathleen is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
