A funeral service for Kenneth S. “Kenny” Neal of Waltham, formerly of Cambridge, will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11 Noon in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown.
Kenny dedicated his life to education and community. He began his 35-year career in the Cambridge Public Schools as an 8th-grade teacher at the Roberts School and concluded it as Assistant Principal at the Kennedy-Longfellow School.
He played a key role in establishing the Cambridge School Volunteers program and was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Kenneth S. Neal Award, recognizing his extraordinary support of volunteers and volunteer initiatives within the school system.
After retiring from Cambridge Public Schools, Kenny continued his commitment to service as Literacy Coordinator with Mystic Valley Elder Services, fostering connections between older adults and children through the joy of reading.
Beyond his professional life, Kenny cherished summers on Cape Cod, spending time with family, friends, and neighbors.
He was the beloved husband of Susan (Barnes) Neal. Loving stepfather of Maura McCarthy & her husband Philip Lajoie of Burlington. Dear brother of Gary P. Neal of Cambridge. Loving grandfather of Alex Lajoie. Dear brother-in-law of Paul Barnes, his wife Gloria, & their daughter Lauren of Foxboro and Andrew Barnes of Duxbury.
A Funeral Service will be held in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home 270 Main St. Watertown on Tuesday September 16, 2025, at 11 AM. Relatives & friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Monday from 4 to 7 PM in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
