Linda Doherty Obituary

A funeral mass for Linda A. Doherty of Watertown will be held on Friday March 1, 2024, at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, Watertown.

Linda was born in Watertown to the late William S. Doherty Jr., and Elizabeth S. “Betty” (Sheldon) Doherty. She passed away suddenly on February 15, 2024. She was 74.

Though a lifelong resident of Watertown, Linda was a citizen of the world. She had an enduring love of travel and exploration, a passion she translated into a successful career. As a travel agent and advisor, first with Travel by Betty Doherty—founded by her mother and which she later ran herself—and more recently with The Travel Collaborative, Linda relished every opportunity to share her decades of experience and curiosity about the world with countless clients and with her colleagues and friends.

Linda was deeply devoted to those she loved. She leaves behind an extended family—both relatives and chosen family—that will remember her for her generous spirit, her love of reading, and her obsession with the New England Patriots. In addition to her family, anyone with whom she connected will remember her vibrant sense of humor and her one-of-a-kind laugh. She was the loving daughter of the late William and Betty (Sheldon) Doherty, and sister of the late William S. Doherty III and sister in law to his surviving wife, Joanne, of North Falmouth. Her greatest joy was her relationship with her nephews—Garrett (Megan) Doherty of Los Angeles and Bryant (Sophie) Doherty of Plymouth—until she became great aunt to their children, Jackson, Leo, and Serena. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her great niece and nephews, and showing off their pictures to her friends, colleagues, and strangers she met. They treasured her in return.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 29, from 5 to 7pm at MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home (270 Main St., Watertown). A funeral service will take place on Friday March 1, at 10am at Sacred Heart Church (770 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown) followed by interment at Belmont Cemetery at 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.

True to her giving nature, Linda was an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center (1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215) or at www.joslin.org.
