Mary McFarlin Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary (Reardon) McFarlin will be held on Thursday June 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Church, Watertown.

Mary was a lifelong Watertown resident and devoted wife to Fran for 55 years. She was the daughter of John and Bridget (McHugh) Reardon.

A proud alum of St. Patrick’s High School and Malden Hospital School of Nursing. She was the perfect nurse- compassionate, intelligent, hard-working and nurturing.  Her career began at Boston City Hospital as a surgical nurse. Next, she cared for patients as the supervisor in the operating and recovery department at Brookline Hospital. She spent years caring for the patients at Charlesgate Manor, in an OBGYN practice, and finally retiring from McLean Hospital where she was a charge nurse for many years.

Mary devoted her life to the care of others. She exemplified this through her love of her family, her nursing career, and her faithful devotion to God. The most important things to Mary were her faith and family.

She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish where every important event in her life took place. In recent years she enjoyed ironing linens for Catholic TV and “money counting,” with her many friends, from the parish.

She enjoyed spending time in her home in Falmouth with Fran. She loved the ocean and time spent with her dear friend Ann Hughes on the Cape.

Mary welcomed many to her home on Rutland St. The door was always open, and the kettle was always on. She had an amazing gift of counseling friends and family around her dining room table.

Mary had strong faith in God and love for her Irish heritage. She and her beloved five siblings grew up in a tight-knit Irish Catholic home where they developed an unbreakable bond that lasted all of their lives.

She was the beloved wife of Francis T. “Fran” McFarlin. Proud mother of Maura Gallagher and her husband Raymond of Watertown, Judith Cox and her husband Keith of Winchester, Jane Leo and her husband Christopher of Franklin, and Susanne Brueggeman and her husband James of Watertown. Dear sister of the late Edward P. Reardon, John J. Reardon, Theresa A. Crouse, James M. Reardon, and Ellen M. McGaffigan. Devoted grandmother of Owen and Declan Gallagher, Madeleine, Hannah, & Lillianna Cox, Elizabeth & Bridget Leo, and William & Timothy Brueggeman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.

Funeral from the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. Watertown Thursday June 13, at 9 AM followed by Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Patrick 212 Main St., Watertown at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 PM. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
