Obituary

Mary Ann (Dolan) Johnson of Tewksbury formerly of Belmont passed away on August 21, 2023. Age 91. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Russell Johnson; devoted mother of Mark H. Johnson & his wife Carol of Reading, Steven F. Johnson of Tewksbury, Edward C. Johnson & his wife Linda of Sitka, AK, Sally A. Johnson & her partner Jill of Cambridge, and Timothy J. Johnson & his wife Suzanne of Bedford, NH; dear “sister” of Mary Fay Boudrot. Loving grandmother of Matthew Johnson, Amy Rivera, Josie Lynn Taitano, Hailey Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Amanda Johnson, & Brayden Gorski. Doting great-grandmother of Liam, Ryan, Avery, Tyler, & Ivy Lynn.

Mary Ann loved life and lived it to the fullest.  She was equally happy playing tennis in Belmont, or fishing for halibut in Alaska.  She loved her children, cherished her grandchildren, and beamed over her great-grandchildren.  She was an active volunteer in Belmont, serving as a town meeting member for decades and working at the polls on election day.  She served the town as an active member of the Recreation Commission and on the Senior Center Building Committee.

She loved to be at the family camp in Limerick, Maine.  Her ideal time in Maine was with as many family members as possible – the more the merrier.  After they retired, Mary Ann and Charlie spent as much time as possible at camp.  She constantly out fished Charlie and let him know about it.  A trip to Maine was not complete unless there was a visit to an antique shop or a trip at dusk to look for deer.

Professionally, she attended the Katherine Gibbs School after high school.   She then spent the next period of her life raising her family.  As her family advanced in age, she attended Antioch College and obtained her bachelor’s degree.  While attending college, she held a position at Belmont High School as a guidance counselor.  After obtaining her degree, she acquired a position at the Harvard Business School, retiring as the Assistant Director of Human Resources.
