Monica Margaret Strauss passed away on June 29th, following a courageous battle with an aggressive leukemia. Monica was born on November 29th 1959, in Boston. She exceled in Ancient Greek at the Wheeler School in Providence, and received a BA in East Asian Studies from Harvard University in 1978. Fluent in Japanese, she performed research at the Electronics Technology Laboratory in Tskuba, Japan, leading to a SM in Political Science from MIT. She completed her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at Boston University in 2002, and subsequently conducted research at MGH. Monica always loved gardening and Golden Retrievers, and was a tireless activist for causes she believed in.
Monica is greatly missed by her husband Mark Vangel, her son Elliott, her brothers Nicholas and William, her fifth Golden Retriever Ruisa, and her many dear friends.
