A graveside service honoring retired Watertown Firefighter Peter F. Baker will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Mount Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect Street, Waltham, MA.
Born to Everett A. Baker and Ruth Sanders, Peter grew up with his twin sister Joyce and older brother Everett on Main Street in Watertown, across the street from the Gore Estate.
After finishing high school, Peter, with a group of 10 young men from Watertown, enlisted in the Marines together. Peter went on to serve in Vietnam, returning in April, 1969. Upon coming home, Peter and a group of friends headed to the Woodstock Festival, which he often referred to as one of the highlights of his life. In a continuation of service, Peter worked at the Fernald State School, taking care of special needs residents. It was there that he met Mary, his future wife. He felt like he won the lottery when he joined the Watertown Fire Department and thrived in the first responder environment. Whatever Peter did, he did 110%.
He completed the Boston Marathon 3 times and became an avid golfer. His love of nature led him to learn beekeeping from his good neighbor, Victor Thomas.
Peter and Mary were married on April 7, 1984. They felt blessed to enjoy a wonderful life together for 41 years. They shared a home on Martha's Vineyard and had many adventures to Florida, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.
Peter especially loved having friends and family for Thanksgiving on the Vineyard, Watertown High reunions with old friends and taking his nieces christmas tree shopping. He never, ever forgot a birthday and donated to multiple organizations.
Peter will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his sense of humor and boundless generosity.
Peter was the devoted husband of Mary O’Neill-Baker. He was the cherished brother of Joyce Baker and her husband David Albertz, and the loving brother of the late Everett Baker. He will be warmly remembered as a caring uncle to Jennifer Gaudette, Gina Cardarilli, and Christopher Baker-Albertz.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend Peter’s graveside service on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Mount Feake Cemetery as we gather to honor his life, service, and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Peter’s memory may be made to the Watertown Firefighters Relief Association 99 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02742
