A Celebration of Life honoring Robert J. O’Connell will be held on Friday April 4, 2025 from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Hibernian Hall, 151 Watertown St., Watertown.
Robert was born in Waltham to the late Waldo & Kate (McDonough) O’Connell. He passed away at his home in Allston on November 14, 2024. He was 81.
Upon graduating from Worcester State College, Mr. O’Connell volunteered with the Peace Corps and served for two years in the country of India.
Following his Peace Corps service, Mr. O’Connell became an Associate Professor at Massachusetts Bay Community College where he applied his knowledge and skill for 35 years. During that time, he was proud to help shape the minds of youth and adult learners alike. He was a strong believer in climate change, and for the necessity of supporting students in receiving a well-rounded education. He had a deep concern that the educational system in this country was not up to the level necessary for the students to compete with the educated of other countries. Mr. O’Connell was also very active in state and federal matters which he considered to be of utmost importance for the well-being of all people.
He was the beloved son of the late Waldo & Kate (McDonough) O’Connell, and loving brother of: Elizabeth B. O’Connell, Harold O’Connell, Earl O’Connell, and Francis O’Connell. Robert is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his half-brother Thomas O’Connell.
