Susan Robertson Obituary

Susan Gail Robertson

Birth: 12 April 1951 – Cambridge, MA

Marriage: 6 Sept. 1986 – Brookline, MA to Jim Condon

Death: 17 Sept. 2023 – Cambridge, MA

Education and Career

·      B.A. in Fine Arts from Jackson College of Tufts University

·      Attended University of Chicago for Art History

·      M.S. – Masters in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University

Susan held various jobs (as an independent newspaper editor (Equinox); a plant caretaker; a copy editor) during her life, until she landed at The MITRE Corporation in 1990, where she became a graphic designer and website expert. She worked for MITRE for 28 years and retired in 2018.

Not only was graphic design Susan’s profession, she also brought her expertise in design to many organizations as a volunteer – designing websites, posters, and presentations – for the various societies, churches and projects she or her friends and family were involved in.

Susan was intelligent and creative, a wonderful and intuitive cook, and she loved cats – especially black ones.  Her interests and talents were many.  She started working on the family genealogy in the early 2000’s, and when COVID struck, her sister joined in, and both became well and truly hooked. Susan did copious research on both sides of her family – maternal and paternal, and together with her sister, wrote and (self) published A Family History of the Robertsons and Fleccas.

If Susan could be said to have had a grand passion, it was opera – of all kinds, makes and models. She had a special fondness for Wagner, but she did not limit her interest to one composer and attended operas at various venues from The Met in New York City, to the Glimmerglass Shed in upstate New York, to a garage setting in Somerville, MA. She was on the Board of Trustees of the Boston Wagner Society and in the past, was often very involved with that Society’s online presence.

She leaves a sister, family and friends that loved her dearly and will miss her wry wit and humor.  Above all we will miss her love and commitment to family, friends, and her black cat (Rudie).

She was the devoted wife of the late James M. Condon. Beloved daughter of the late James Edward & Madeline Katherine (Fleeca) Robertson. Loving sister of Mattie Gustafson & her husband Harry of Middletown, Rhode Island. Caring aunt of Andrew Edward Gustafson. Doting great-aunt of Morgan and Rian Gustafson.
