Virginia McGirr Obituary

Virginia McMackin McGirr passed away on Monday, April 25th in the presence of her loving family. In true Ginny fashion, she chose exactly how she wanted to go, peacefully at home, without a lot of fuss, after a long and graceful battle with COPD.

Born in Belmont, MA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ella McMackin. After graduating from Belmont High School, she followed her parents’ legacy to Syracuse University to earn her B.A. in English. She later completed a master’s degree in English Literature.

Ginny worked at The McMackin Corporation alongside her father, brothers, and nephews, and many friends for 51 years.

Central to her life was Ginny’s role as “mom.” She is survived by her 3 children, Katy McGirr, Molly Croumie (and her husband Dennis) and Michael McGirr (and his wife Susan) and 4 grandchildren, Cameron, Jane, Maggie, and CeCe. Ginny was immensely proud of her children despite never quite believing they could keep themselves warm enough or well fed enough.

Ginny found joy in travel with the Nurses Group, summers on the Cape, her friends whom she held close and hosting big Christmas dinners – the more the merrier!

She will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, tenacity, witty humor, and beautiful smile. She will be dearly missed as the matriarch of her large and loving family.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Ginny will be held on Friday July 29th 2022 from 6 to 9 PM in the Copper House Tavern, 380 Winter St. Waltham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
