Nikiforos Kollias was born in 1941 in the middle of war-torn Greece and passed peacefully at his home in Watertown Massachusetts on Tuesday 22 November 2016.

A physicist by profession and a study of the human body by training, Nik developed innovative methods for the study of the skin and it's interaction with light, pioneering several imaging techniques and publishing over 150 peer-reviewed papers and many patents in his professional lifetime.

A forward-thinker, innovator and master of enthusiasm, Nik leaves behind fond memories for those who knew him.  He was a mentor for many young students.

Nik succumbed to cancer after a long fight, leaving his wife Marie-Jose and sons Peter and Dimitri, their spouses Melissa & Emilie and children Alexander, Theodore, Anneke and Isabelle and relatives in Greece and in France.

Nikiforos Kollias was cremated at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Watertown, MA on November 28 at 2:00pm.

Donations in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org. The family is deeply grateful for the thoughts and sympathies extended by family, friends and colleagues.
