We only knew Karen from the BU library events, but she always was so welcoming. There was a group of us who came together and she greeted each of us by name and was very friendly and pleasant. She always had a genuine smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes. We were all shocked by her untimely death and will all miss seeing and talking with her at the BU library events.

Betsy, I was so sorry to hear of Karen's death last week. We know each other so long now, and you and Karen are like family to me. I've been thinking of the fun times we had together with Karen and your mom. Give my best to Barbara, and please know I wish the best for you.
Love, Jeff

Betsy - you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Karen was a very unique, caring and special influence in my life. She always brought fun to the table and always honed in on what was important in the lives of the people around her. No matter what the occasion, she always made the person she was with feel that they were the most important person in the world - she had a way of making people feel loved. She will be sorely missed by everyone.

Betsy, I am so sorry for your loss and feel that any words I may say are so inadequate. Karen was such a beautiful, loving person. I am so glad that I got to spend some time with her in June and we talked as usual about the need for me to throw another backyard party. Apparently she enjoyed attending these. ..just one small example of all the things we take for granted we will do in the future. Karen was taken much too soon, but she will always be remembered.

Betsy,
I was so sorry to hear about Karen from Joanne. I have such wonderful memories of Karen's patience and love dealing with our precocious, occasionally bratty six year old camper during Jojo's first year at Bernadette. She instilled a love of Bernie in Joanne that she has continued through her life and Karen always held a special place in Joanne's heart.

I knew Karen from Camp. She was always so positive and fun to be around. Karen would try to keep me out of trouble and would laugh at all the things I did. Her smile could light up the room. She will be missed.

Dear Betsy,
The girls and I are heartsick at your loss. So many happy memories come flooding back of your parents and Karen. The Rummage Sale and your Dad buying back your clothes. Trudging down the hill to the skating rink. Visiting us on the Cape. May they and others bring you comfort in the years to come.

Karen Hook was a wonderful, caring person whose Boston University Nursing History Archives (NHA) colleagueship I will forever cherish. Karen always made me feel exceptionally welcome at NHA meetings, as well as at the many Friends of the Library events and dinners I attended. I shall miss her very much and extend my most sincere sympathy to her family members and friends.
